چکیده
Despite comprising over half of the biodiversity living venomous vertebrates, fish venoms are comparatively understudied. Venom from lesser weever ( Echiichthys vipera syn. Trachinus ) has received only cursory attention despite containing one most potent venom toxins (trachinine). Literature records further complicated by early studies combining with that related greater draco ). The current study used a chicken chorioallantoic membrane assay to investigate bioactivity following application measured quantities crude major bilateral vein at 1 cm distance heart. had dose-dependent effect on survival rate and exhibited cardiotoxic properties day six development. Crude E. triggered tachycardia doses 37.58 44.88 μg/μL bradycardia 77.4 μg/μL. three highest (65.73, 151.24 μg/μL) caused significant mortality. These data also suggested intra-specific variation in potency. Unlike number other piscine venoms, was not haemorrhagic concentrations assayed. • Lesser assessed for properties. mortality assays. Heart were but both observed. did cause haemorrhagia

Purified Lesser weever fish venom (Trachinus vipera) induces eryptosis, apoptosis and cell cycle arrest
Accidents caused by the sting of Trachinus vipera (known as Lesser weever fish) are relatively common in shallow waters of the Mediterranean. Symptoms after the sting vary from severe pain to edema or even tissue necrosis in some cases. Here we show that purified Lesser weever fish venom induces eryptosis, the suicidal erythrocyte death, and apoptosis of human colon carcinoma cells. The venom l...
متن کاملWeever fish sting: an unusual problem.
This summer accident and emergency departments in coastal towns of Britain may be presented with an unusual problem. Patients will arrive complaining of having sustained an extremely painful sting on the foot while paddling. The foot will be swollen and tender, and close examination will show a small puncture wound surrounded by erythema. Strong analgesics may not afford complete relief. These ...

متن کاملPurification and characterization of an organ specific haemorrhagic toxin from Vipera russelli russelli (Russell's viper) venom.
A haemorrhagic toxin (VRR-12) from Vipera russelli russelli (Russell's viper) venom has been purified by ion-exchange chromatography on CM-Sephadex C-50 followed by size-exclusion HPLC to electrophoretically homogeneous state. It is a 12 kDa single polypeptide having 1 mole of Zn+2 ion. This toxin induces intense intestinal haemorrhage and to a lesser extent skeletal muscle haemorrhage in mice....
متن کاملVipera lebetina venom contains all types of snake venom metalloproteases.
Snake venoms contain four classes of metalloproteases that all have a typical zinc-chelating sequence (HEXXHGXXH). N-terminal sequences and internal sequences of different purified metalloproteases were determined using Edman sequencing and LC MS/MS technique. Oligonucleotides were designed and used as primers for cDNA cloning from Vipera lebetina venom gland cDNA library. We found that isoform...
